Equality, diversity, and inclusion rang loud and clear during this Dreamforce week. I was honored and thrilled to take part in the “Diversity in Full Color” breakfast and panel session that FinancialForce hosted to a standing room only crowd at Fogo de Chão.
We had an esteemed panel of professionals that shared their advice, feedback and lessons learned on the topic of diversity and inclusion.
“Diversity isn’t just about gender, it’s about values.” – Nora Alves, Chief Diversity Officer, FinancialForce
“Diversity is wider than just race, gender, etc., it’s also diversity of thought.” – Angela Bhurji, IT Director, Cisco Systems
“Diversity initiatives fail because of the focus on the numbers and pipeline, rather than focusing on inclusion.” – Mona Sabet, Managing Director, Tribal
“Be fearless. Come with solutions instead of coming forward with problems.” – Valerie Wolloch, SVP Solution Engineering, Salesforce
“Every day now I think of what my unconscious bias and how it affects the workplace and the people that I work with.” – Lori Fazeli, Sr. Customer Success Manager, Microsoft
What are some things we can we do moving forward?
- Take the unconscious bias training and understand the role that you play in your professional and personal lives.
- Work to be an ambassador within your company and see what programs can be created to help build the culture of diversity and inclusion.
- Diversity is a change management initiative. When you are executing on any diversity and inclusion programs, focus on implementing change management processes along the way.
