Dublin city has a wonderful history of producing a few of the world’s true great artists: James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, George Bernard Shaw, William Butler Yeats and… .Bono. If you’ve had the pleasure to visit the bustling city of Dublin, or as James Joyce called it our “dear dirty Dublin,” you’ve probably heard a joke or tall tale about Bono. Everyone in Dublin has a Bono story, just ask.
I had the privilege to live in Dublin for a year and below are a few things I learned about Bono during my time there:
.) Every Christmas Eve Bono gives a free impromptu performance on Grafton Street in Dublin, this year he recruited other local celebrities to join.
.) Bono and Bill Clinton are great mates – When Bill Clinton comes to Dublin he ditches his secret service to go have a pint at Bono’s house and a wild night out on the town.
.) “U2” First called themselves “Feedback” then “The Hype.”
.) Bono co-owns “The Clarence Hotel” in Dublin.
.) Bono’s real name is Paul Hewson.
.) Bono is a part owner of Facebook.
.) Bono works for the IDA – Irish Development Agency – to help bring businesses to Ireland.
.) Bono is the only person to be nominated for a grammy, an oscar, a golden globe and a nobel peace prize.
.) Everyone in Dublin has a Bono story – just ask a Dublin taxi driver!
