Import and export Excel™ data to and from FinancialForce Accounting

FinancialForce XL is a user-friendly tool that combines the power and control of FinancialForce Accounting with the familiarity and convenience of Microsoft™ Excel™ – enabling you to output, work with, display, share and even input your data, more easily from inside Excel™, using your secure salesforce logon credentials.

FinancialForce XL enables you to create nicely formatted financial statements without having to learn a specialized report writer. It gives you reporting that harnesses the advantages of spreadsheets but overcomes their usual weaknesses and complexities. It feeds your Excel™ reports with real-time data from FinancialForce Accounting and makes them far easier to maintain and share.

Overcoming spreadsheet limitations

Most reporting tools have ways to download reports to Excel™, but this can be a cumbersome process, requiring users to save files on a local drive and pasting/moving data into the proper cells of a formatted spreadsheet. Furthermore, if multiple people need to work with the same information, spreadsheet data might vary depending on when the reports are run and how the download selection criteria were defined. This causes data integrity issues and the infamous “multiple versions of the truth” problem.

FinancialForce.com also recognizes that users like to create budgets and even special journal entries in Excel™ that need to be uploaded or rekeyed to their financial system. Again, this can be a cumbersome and overly manual process in some accounting systems.

FinancialForce XL was designed to eliminate these limitations and fully leverage your knowledge and familiarity of Excel™. For instance, rather than downloading to Excel™ from an external reporting tool, FinancialForce XL works within Excel.™ It allows users to securely pull information directly from the FinancialForce.com single ledger into a spreadsheet - even into a specific cell. This eliminates multiple steps for the user and ensures that anyone who is using that spreadsheet template is looking at the exact same information stored in FinancialForce Accounting. The spreadsheet cells can be refreshed at any time with the click of a button. Also note that FinancialForce.com security rules apply to anyone using a spreadsheet with the FinancialForce XL add-in. They will only be able to see data for which they have read permission.

Upload budgets or post transactions

FinancialForce XL also offers a wide range of write-back or input capabilities, serving as an alternate user interface for many functions such as invoice postings, budget revision updates and master record loading. For instance, you can quickly input journal entries using an out-of -the-box input template that will enter transactions straight to the books from spreadsheets, with full FinancialForce.com security applied - and without needing any programming or IT support!
